Nathanson Family Resource Center

The Brill Room
The Brill Room is filled with resources about a wide range of topics, including diagnosis and treatment options, as well as current information on social service organizations and family coping. In addition, one section of this room is dedicated to introducing visitors to the many exciting projects in neuropsychiatry that are currently underway here at UCLA. One can browse through a binder of current studies, pick up a brochure from a clinic, or take a business card from an NPH specialist. There are multiple copies of all the materials in the Brill Room, so visitors may feel free to take information with them for review at a more convenient time.

The Conference Room
Our Conference Room is a formal meeting space that is used by NPIH staff for patient and/or family support groups as well as case conferences. The room is equipped with a tv/dvd/vcr combination unit, and can be used for the private screenings of educational videos, many of which we keep here in the Center.

The Family Room
The Family Room is a quiet and comfortable haven for families within the hospital. With couches, magazines and bottled water for adults, and a "Kid's Corner", complete with toys and coloring books, for children this is a space for families to relax or network with others who are in a similar situation. Here families share what they have learned with other families, but also with our staff, providing us with a clearer idea of the resources sought and found by these people in crisis.

The Reading Room
The Reading Room has floor-to-ceiling shelves stacked with books that were hand-picked by NPIH staff on a variety of mental illnesses and developmental disabilities. In addition, the Center subscribes to a number of healthcare publications which are housed here in binders. This room makes it possible to obtain accurate, updated information about a loved one's diagnosis, as well as news about recent developments in the field. This room also has two computers, which can be used by our clients to research resources, access online support groups, or draft documents. UCLA students who are specially trained to work with families are available to help search for information on the Internet. In addition, the Southern California "Rainbow Resource Guide", an authoritative directory of social service organizations, is installed and available for use on both of these computers.
