Debra Seacord, PhD

Consultant

Debra Seacord Ph.D. completed her psychology internship at St. John's Child Study Center in Santa Monica and came to UCLA in 1994. While at St. John's, Dr. Seacord developed an intervention program to assist children who were traumatized by their parents' illnesses. Coming to UCLA was a dream come true, as she was able to continue working with children and families in an acute medical setting.

During her time at UCLA, Dr. Seacord has focused on traumatic issues surrounding pediatric cancer patients and their families. Research projects have expanded to include a five-year longitudinal study with pediatric heart, kidney and liver patients and their families.

Being at UCLA has offered Dr. Seacord the opportunity to be part of more unique and personal projects, such as the Nathanson Family Resource Center. Dr. Seacord is also working on cutting edge interventions utilizing the Internet through the Pediatric Experience Journal in conjunction with Children's Hospital of Boston (http://experiencejournal.com/transplant/index.shtml).

In addition to work at UCLA, Dr. Seacord is blessed with three active children who keep her busy during her free time. As a family, they love to ski and travel when the opportunity arises!
