Dr. Catherine Sammons has worked with families of children and adults with special needs for over twenty-five years. After earning her MSW at UCLA, she provided in- home and community-based family support services for consumers of the California Regional Center system in Northern California. She then returned to UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute & Hospital, where she had previously received training as a U.S. Maternal & Child Health Bureau LEND intern (Leadership in Neurodevelopmental & Related Disorders). Her doctorate in management from The Anderson School of Management at UCLA enables her to guide and evaluate organizational and community change processes in addition to interpersonal clinical interventions.
Dr. Sammons is co-author with Nancy B. Miller, PhD, LCSW, of Everybody's Different: Understanding & Changing Our Reactions to Disabilities [Paul H. Brookes Publishers], which addresses the variety of emotions, questions, and stereotypes that people in all walks of life may experience when they encounter someone with a disability. This easy-to-read guide candidly explains why these interactions can be awkward and helps the reader to become more at ease with the concept of disability differences and to communicate more effectively.
